Feast on Authentic Japanese Cuisine at Japan’s International Gateway! Top 3 Halal-Certified Japanese Restaurants in Chiba

If you are planning to go to Tokyo, chances are you will probably step foot in Chiba as well. That is because this neighboring prefecture of Tokyo has Japan’s main gateway for international air travel, the Narita International Airport. The number of international tourists they receive gives rise to a vibrant food scene that has anything from authentic Japanese food to various foreign cuisines. Many of them are Muslim-friendly restaurants and there are plenty of great spots to discover nearby. Read on and find out why you should stop by Chiba before heading to Tokyo or leaving Japan!

About Chiba Prefecture

Located in southern Kanto region, Chiba borders Tokyo and Tokyo Bay to the West and is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the East. The nation’s major international travel hub, Narita International Airport, can be found here and is connected to Tokyo through the Narita Express. Other major attractions in the prefecture are also well connected and can be easily reached with the extensive network of JR local lines. For instance, it takes a mere 15-16 mins and one direct line to get from Tokyo to Maihama, the closest station to Tokyo Disney Resort. In addition to the renowned amusement park, Chiba offers a fantastic shopping experience with its giant shopping outlets, and breathtaking scenic spots along the hundreds of miles long coastline. As both the agricultural and fishing industry powerhouse, Chiba has easy access to a wide range of seafood and produce such as Japanese pears and loquats. It is also known to be the top producer of peanuts in Japan. Whether it is a feast for the eyes or a genuine feast, you can be sure that Chiba will not disappoint you.

Restaurant ①:Kineyamugimaru Narita International Airport T1

Since Narita International Airport has many direct flights from Kuala Lumpur , our recommendation starts with Kineyamugimaru in Terminal 1. It is an Udon restaurant on the 5th floor serving halal-certified Udon, Tempura, Onigiri rice balls, with their Udon noodles freshly made every day and cooked upon orders. On the same floor, there is an observation deck where you can see the takeoff and landing of the airplanes on a sunny day. If you are a big aviation fan, swing by the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences which is just right next to the airport. There are many cool exhibits for you to learn about the structure and parts of an aircraft, and a simulation workshop that allows you to experience what it is like controlling a passenger jet.

The airport might be away from Tokyo. But it is surrounded by local attractions that you should not miss. Just a 20-minute bus ride from Narita Airport is AEON MALL Narita, a shopping complex housing anything from fashion boutiques to electronic stores, and conveniently a prayer space on the 1st floor. No need to worry about time when you are on a shopping spree!
Another spot is Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. With 1,070 years of history, the Sanjunoto (three-story pagoda) and the Komyo-do Hall in the temple are listed as Important Cultural Properties of the nation. The street leading up to the temple is lined with local shops and gift stores selling the local specialties, Yokan (a Japanese sweet made of red bean paste and sugar), and snacks made with Chiba’s famous peanuts. Inside the holy precinct, you will see a huge park full of trees and water cascading down from the Yuhi Falls, which stands 20m high in the park. After visiting the temple, you should also check out the Chiba Prefectural Boso-no-Mura (Boso Village). It is an open-air museum of traditional Japanese houses and Samurai residences, an interesting photo spot that brings you back to ancient Japan.
