One-day trip from Tokyo: Enjoy superb views, recreation and shopping, with majestic Mt. Fuji as a backdrop

Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan. Well-known as the symbol of the nation, the mountain’s foothills feature numerous tourist attractions. In 2013, Mt. Fuji was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site, along with its related cultural properties. It’s a shame just to observe Mt. Fuji from a great distance.
You can enjoy various activities in the areas surrounding Mt. Fuji, all accessible by either train or highway bus for one-day trips from Tokyo. In addition, there are Muslim-friendly facilities scattered throughout the region, so be sure to include them in your travel plans.

Enjoy the rides and attractions at Fuji-Q Highland, with superb views of Mt. Fuji in the background

Fuji-Q Highland is one of Japan’s largest amusement parks, boasting a great number of unique attractions. The park is easily accessible from Shinjuku: 70 minutes by train, or 100 minutes by bus. Thrill rides are popular among visitors, with the favorite being the giant roller coaster FUJIYAMA. The view of Mt. Fuji seen from the coaster is spectacular. If roller coasters aren’t your thing, enjoy the view from the FUJIYAMA SKYDECK, which stands beside the roller coaster. The park does have a prayer room equipped with ablution facilities, and serves non-alcoholic food and drinks.

Visit scenic spots around Lake Kawaguchiko adorning Mt. Fuji

Near Fuji-Q Highland is Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes. Here there are many spots where you can enjoy other beautiful views of Mt. Fuji. Oishi Park, within which is located the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center, is one such spot. The park is perfectly positioned for you to commemorate your trip to Japan by capturing shots of Mt. Fuji with seasonal flowers such as lavender in the foreground. The park has over 90 types of seasonal flowers for your enjoyment.

Come prayer time, you can visit FujiKawaguchiko MASJID, a mosque built in 2020. A cafe in the building offers various menu options for Muslims, so you can enjoy meals and take a rest.

If you are visiting the area during autumn, the Momiji Corridor is a must-see spot. The prime season is around beginning to middle of November, when roughly 500 Momiji (maple) trees along the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko change color and are reflected on the lake. During this season, various events are held in and around the surrounding facilities, and there are many street stalls. Furthermore, the Momiji trees are fantastically lit up in the evenings. Momiji Tunnel, located about a 15-minute drive from the Momiji Corridor, is another popular sight. Here, Momiji trees along the road extend their branches over the road, the beautiful leaves creating a tunnel. At these spots, you can compose stunning pictures combining Mt. Fuji, Lake Kawaguchiko and autumn Momiji trees.
